Crossing more items off my list of things to do!

This past week was insane! Monday night we had another concert, Tuesday was of couse, drink of the week followed by pie at Village Inn, Wednesday musical rehearsal and Thursday was skeet shooting and a drum corps show in Ogden.

So let's see...the concert went well. I do miss our normal director though. He has taken the summer off and I think we sound better with him than we do with his replacement.

Tuesday some good friends made me attend Drink of the Week at our TGIFridays and then we all went for pie afterwards at Village Inn. I resisted going to both of these events because I'm lame, but I'm very fortunate to have people in my life that make me not be lame. I have truly met some of the best friends out here. Ok, enough with the sentimental crap.

Thursday...skeet shooting. So, about 2 months ago I casually mentioned that I wanted to learn to shoot a gun. Because I live in Utah and everyone knows how to shoot a gun out here. Well one of my buddies took me seriously and wouldn't let me back out. He informed me that I was going shooting with the boys Thursday after work. Yes, that's right 3 guys and me. I know, what else is new? So I got to shoot clay pigeons with a 12 gauge shotgun. And I was terrified at first. I had never held a gun, much less shot one and I thought it was going to hurt, because I had heard all these horror stories about kickbacks and shoulder bruises. And I have to say, it didn't hurt at all. And the guys that I was with were so patient with me. Showing me how to track and where to aim...and when I hit 3 clay pigeons I think they were almost as excited as I was. At the end of the 2 games they informed me that the next step is shooting hand guns at the range and they informed me that I will be doing that sometime soon.

After my skeet shooting experience I went to a real drum corps show at Weber State! They had some really good corps there and it made me realize how much I miss playing my mellophone loud! Yes, I am a huge nerd!

Up next on the agenda: San Diego. Yeah, I'm taking a training class in San Diego...it's a rough job but someone has to do it.

That is all!

The First Night of a Busy Weekend...

So because I work for the government (and we all know how those government workers are), Friday was supposed to be my day off...except Friday is a holiday. So that meant I got Thursday off too! Most of Thursday was spent running errands and trying to get things back on track since I haven't been on the road in almost 2 weeks (important things like working on invitations to a bridal shower and making sure my calla lily doesn't eat my TV)!

Around 6 I decided to head up to Logan to hang out with Amanda and her buddies. I randomly ran into them at church on Sunday (and yes it was totally random seeing as how they live an hour away) and they invited me up to the Logan fireworks. We all met up at Joe's house (one of her buddies) and had a cookout. The guys made the burgers, which was fine because they tasted great, but they were like half a cow...per burger. But it was all very tasty nonetheless. Then all 6 of us piled into the Outback (Yes, the Outback seats 5... No, I didn't Superman across the back...although I did offer. And no it was still not as ridiculous as fitting 8 in a Ford escort) and headed to the labs at Utah State where we were going to sit on the roof to watch the show. We carefully made our way onto the roof, I say carefully because the ladder was a little rickety and also we had to watch out for the cops, and camped out for the show. For all those that have been to Harborfest, it was not as cool as that...however, for a mid-size town it was a pretty impressive display.

After the show it was time for the tour part of the evening. The only problem was, I was like the walking dead. Having been up since 6 that morning and running around all day, and now with half a cow in my stomach...I was ready for some sleep! So when Joe started spouting off jargon like catalyst and cations...my brain was half registering what it meant...the other half was saying, would that refrigerator with the corn in it be comfortable to sleep in?

When we finished up the tour we realized that traffic was still pretty bad. Yes, the traffic. I had no idea that so many people lived in that part of Utah. If you have never been to Logan, it's pretty sparsely populated...or so I thought...apparently fireworks are the social event of the year. So Amanda, Jake, Joe (a different Joe yes there were 2...it's confusing) and I decided to walk back to the house (the other Joe drove). So we're walking along and we come across a couple of drunk guys heckling...yes heckling, the drivers (Things like,"Don't get in the right lane...oh he got in the right lane, what is he thinking?). They give us the typical drunk guy hello ("Hey!!! Whaareyoudointonight?) and Amanda and I kept walking. The other 2 guys (who were further behind because Amanda and I walk too fast) stopped to chit chat. That's when we came upon the sprinklers. In front of Logan hospital there were sprinklers that were on. Amanda and I wrongly assumed that we could beat them...but no, they were out to get us. We started off at our usual walk but quickly got hit by the first one. I yelled out something of a profanity and started running. Then as I'm running I ask Amanda if she thinks I will get arrested for yelling a profanity in public in Utah (don't need to be getting in trouble or anything). We finally got back to the house, and wouldn't you know...I wasn't tired anymore (which was a good thing because I had an hour drive ahead of me).

We had some more food (there were some Italians there...seriously, they weren't going to let us go hungry) and then I rolled up into Layton around 2am and went to bed. I reminded myself that I am still too old to be doing this (that drive through Sardine canyon at 1am can be a killer)...but I don't seem to be learning from myself every time I say that. But that's ok I had a fun evening!

Now I'm off to another party with the peeps from work. Tomorrow I have a concert "under the stars" and then it's almost back to work. Whew!

That is all!
