Sundance Film Festival = Awesome

So I decided to head up to the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday night. I had tickets to a German film with English subtitles, so I was pretty excited. I didn’t really care all that much about seeing famous people, so I went up in the evening. Everyone was all a buzz about how Paris Hilton was going to be gracing the club scene with her presence. I really didn’t care about that and figured if I saw Paris Hilton, I’d probably want to punch her right in the face…so it was probably best that I didn’t see her. (Although I do think I saw Bruce Willis riding in an Escalade.)

So after much driving in circles to find a parking spot where I wouldn’t have to pay a. $15 or b. get towed, I headed up to main street to check out the scene. The whole atmosphere was like a different world. Everyone was an aspiring actor or director and they were all so friendly. Everyone was talking to everyone. I met people from NY, Boston and LA…and heard all of their stories and had a blast!!!

The movie was fantastic. I saw Die Welle (The Wave), which was about a social studies teacher that conducts a social experiment on his class. The kids think that a Nazi Germany could never happen again…and he proves them wrong. It was a very dramatic, suspenseful film, but it was so good! (This experiment really was conducted in real life, but it wasn’t in Germany but Palo Alto, CA…and the teacher got fired.) I even caught a good chunk of the German in the movie as I was reading the subtitles, and I was thinking during certain parts…ehhh that’s not exactly what he said, or the German way of saying that was so much better. So it was cool that I was able to brush up on some German. Then at the end of the movie the director, composer, a handful of the actors and the actual teacher from Palo Alto stood up in the front of the auditorium and answered questions. Apparently, Sundance is known for this Q &A session with all their movies. When the Q &A was over, the Germans offered to stand in the lobby and field more questions…but I couldn’t hang around for that. It was midnight and it was starting to snow. Canyon roads + snow = car accidents. So I headed out as quickly as possible to try to be the winter storm that was coming.

So Sundance was awesome! I had a great time and I’m either going to get the movie pass next year (where you can see a bunch of movies at a discounted price) or I’m going to volunteer.

That is all!
