Yes, I know…I haven’t updated in awhile. (And after a friendly reminder from a friend…I realized I should probably start updating again.) But I haven’t had anything really nice to say. And if you can’t say something nice… Well I take that back. Some of what I say in this is probably not nice. Let’s just say I haven’t had too much exciting to update on. But perhaps it should be my New Year’s resolution to keep people updated. However, don’t hold your breath…cause it probably won’t happen.

Christmas came and went. It was so nice to be home and I forgot how much I missed the east coast (actually no I didn’t…I am reminded everyday with these stupid Utah drivers). I had a layover at Newark and the first thing I saw when I got off the plane was a Dunkin Donuts. It’s a sad day when Dunkin Donuts makes you excited. That’s how lame bagels and coffee are out here. I definitely am moving closer to home when I get the chance. At least the same time zone.

Brandon visited. I went skiing for the first time ever! I was really scared but I didn’t break anything…so it’s all good. That is one of the few things that Utah does have going for it…awesome skiing and really pretty mountains. I think by next year I will look into getting a season pass and some skiis so I have something to do on the weekends.

The weather here has been chilly for Utah. Everyone is griping about how cold it is. It was single digits for about a week in January and now we are up in the 20s. Well let me clarify that…I live in a desert climate. So it can be 29 during the day but 5 at night. We are getting close to setting some records for the cold. It’s not like Syracuse cold though…so that’s good. We also have had very little snow. I can only think of like 2 days that were bad to drive in all winter. That seems pretty good to me. And after we get a storm the next day is sunny…so it melts a good bit of what we just got. Of course then it goes down to way freezing at night, and that creates black ice, which isn’t good. But I don’t live in an area that has to worry about black ice that much. The really annoying thing is that we have this thing called an inversion. At least that’s what the meteorologists here call it. Anywhere else in America it would be called Smog. It’s gross pollution that forms this thick brown air that hangs over the Wasatch front. Why does the pollution form? Well because snow falls on the ground…snow is cold. The air above it was just warmed by the sun…therefore its warm. So you get this thick brown fog. Well if the snow is cold and the air is warm but the warmness can’t melt the snow…how do you ever get rid of the smog? Well, you hope that a nice storm will come through and blow the smog to Colorado. We have had this problem for DAYS now. And it doesn’t look like it is going to go away anytime soon. The nice part about it though is that it doesn’t affect traffic visibility like a real fog or snow would. So you can still drive fine…you just can’t run outside or burn your wood furnace or anything like that.

On another note: Apparently Layton, UT is the 41st best place to live in America. I feel like there was some definite Mormon bias on the committee for that one.

If anyone watches The Office…I had my own little Office moment this past week. I wish there was a camera I could have looked into.

I am thinking about volunteering with the 4-H kids out here. There’s lots of horses…they have to have a good horse program. At the very least I know that they have horse bowl…so maybe I could help out with that.

I am finishing up this update at work because it’s a Friday and on Fridays we never get any real work done because half the employees are gone. That’s because of that whole every other Friday off thing that we have. I almost would rather stay for 10 hours during the day and have a day off every week. It would be more efficient at least. Anyways, someone brought their kid to work today. If I wanted Romper Room, I would work at a day care. Thankyouverymuch. I know…I will feel different when I’m a parent…but I don’t think so. This is supposed to be a professional environment. Maybe my standards are too high.

I could write a whole log venting about my coworker…but I’ll refrain. If you all want to read it, you can email me.

The good news is that I get to go to Anaheim at the beginning of February for a conference. Then a few more weeks and then I get to go home again.

News Flash: I have been residing in Utah for 5 months now, almost to the day. Wow.

That is all.
